New Food on Campus
Written on August 26, 2008 at 10:53 pm, by admin
It appears that the speculation and hope has paid off, and Chartwells has decided to listen to some of our students’ cries. That’s right, according to the Chartwells website the Cave will once again have a grill in it. Dubbed “Coyote Jack’s Grill” which will specialize in char-grilled and fried chicken and beef burgers. Chartwells says that it will have a “southwestern flair,” which undoubtably will be a nice change from the rotating pasta/quesedilla bar we used to have.
In addition to the grill being re-instated in the Cave, there appears to also be a new brand of pizza being made down stairs, known as Mama Leone’s. Whether or not there’ll be much of a difference is pretty unclear right now, though. The Bistor added a menu item as well, mini-burgers. While I’m sure many have been aquainted with both Wood-n-Tap and Sidewalk’s takes on the slider concept, we’ll see how the Bistro does as well.

Laundry Changes for the Better
Written on August 26, 2008 at 9:27 pm, by admin
Student Government Association President Nathan Kirschbaum sent a global e-mail outlining the changes to the laundry system for this year. I’ll be the first to say, things seem to be much better juding by what the e-mail said. Highlights include a text message being sent when laundry is finished, eliminating the possibility that someone should forget that laundry takes around 30 minuets, not 24 hours. More good news came in the form of an ongoing effort to make the laundry services on campus “greener,” helping to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the school.
All of this means a price increase, of course, but due to it being less than $0.25 the machines will no longer accept quarters, just Bantam Bucks.

Stepping out for a bit.
Written on August 3, 2008 at 3:14 am, by admin
As I’ve mentioned various times throughout postings on Facebook and here, I’m a leader on the August Quest trip. What does this mean? It means I’m gone from today (August 3rd) until Sunday August 24th. When I say gone, I mean gone. No cell phone. No computer. No shower. Nothing.
Have no fear, however! Things will continue to work just swell around here. My good friend John Poleto, who has written various times here at TrinTalk has agreed to field the questions that come in via the contact form. In addition to John I have also found a second ACB moderator for the time that I’m gone, they might stay on board during the school year too, depending on what things are looking like. Please by kind for them.
Keep spreading the word about TrinTalk and the ACB while I’m gone, talk to you soon!

Connecticut College/Wesleyan/Trinity Library System Hacked
Written on July 28, 2008 at 12:01 pm, by admin
The library consortium between Connecticut College, Weselyan University, and Trinity College was apparently hacked into by people looking to either set up chat servers or send spam e-mails. The servers, which are located at the consortium’s hub at Weselyan, contain the names, addresses, social security numbers, and other valuable information of approximately 2,800 ConnColl library patrons, 28 Weselyan library patrons, and three Trinity library patrons. While they say the data wasn’t accessed, they are mailing information to those whose identities could be at risk.
While it isn’t a widespred issue for Trinity, as only 3 names were housed on the server, I still find it somewhat disconcerting that there hasn’t been any attention drawn to this from the administration or the SGA.
The Courant article directs people with questions to see:
Individuals with questions may contact Ruth Seeley, manager of computer support services, at ruth.seeley@conncoll.edu or 860-439-2052.
The Hartford Courant is the publisher that broke the story, and we subsequently picked it up from Weselying.

Charges brought against Trinity-student shooter
Written on July 23, 2008 at 9:15 pm, by admin
The Bristol Press reports that a Bristol, CT man has been charged with the May 5th assault and shooting of a Trinity College student. The male, 27, named Edwin Daniel Vega was caught and arrested on July 13th after police used witness reports in conjunction with surveillance footage from an apartment complex.
Police are still looking for Vega’s accomplice and are asking for help identifying a potential witness. Chances are none of our readers would know her, but here is a website the police are providing. Of course contact HPD if you know anything about the case.
I missed hearing about the July 13th arrest, but judging by the charges brought against the fellow he’ll have a fun time ahead of him assuming he’s found guilty.
Vega, 27 of Bristol, CT

Want to try out the new Facebook?
Written on July 21, 2008 at 12:08 am, by admin
Update 2: Eh maybe not, all I ever see is the new Facebook still…who knows, if it works for you leave a comment.
Update: Facebook has apparently updated the site to have the new design by default. You should be forwarded to http://new.facebook.com automatically when you visit http://facebook.com
While I know this isn’t exactly “Trinity news” I figured it pertains to most any college student out there, especially Trinity students. There has been a lot of talk recently about the new Facebook and what it will look like, well, guess no more because you can now try out what the new Facebook will look and feel like.
Instead of visiting facebook.com as usual visit http://new.facebook.com instead and it should bring you to the new Facebook, completely functional. It worked for me and for others, although it didn’t work for my friend at Georgetown, so it might not work for everyone. It’s pretty cool anyways. Here is a picture of the new profile page for those of you that are curious:

- We'll see, maybe it'll grow on me (33%, 6 Votes)
- I like it (28%, 5 Votes)
