Trinity’s crew teams are currently in England for the Henley Royal Regatta and this morning advanced to the semi-finals after a win against Grand Valley State University in Michigan.

Grand Valley State, from Allendale, Mich., then easily beat England’s University of Warwick by 3 3/4 lengths before Trinity College bested Southampton University, also of England, by 1 lengths. – USA Today

In the first race, Trinity College of Connecticut took an early lead over Grand Valley State University of Michigan and held on to win by two-thirds of a length.

Trinity advanced to a semifinal Saturday against Stanford University, which defeated Cornell University of New York by one length. – International Herald Tribune

There was a bit of rocky water (no pun intended), however, as The Times (London) reports: 

Take Kieran West, a gold medal-winner for Britain in the eight at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, whose brother, Josh, is at present training in the Alps in the hope of emulating him. West, 30, was rowing at No3 and steering a composite crew from Imperial College and Kingston against Trinity College, Hartford, in the Visitors’ Challenge Cup and his power showed as the American crew fell well behind early on and lost by 3 lengths.

Articles also mentioned fellow NESCAC Williams College, who in their quarter-final race kept pace with Harvard until the half mile marker, where Harvard took and maintained a 3/4 lead for the win. Aww, at least the Ephmen gave it their all…
