Trinity Left Over $2.5 million by Former Professor
I was watching NBC30 tonight and suddenly hear our dear ole Trin in the headlines. Professor Emeritus Albert Gastmann, who passed away last year at 87, has left the majority of his estate to The College. The late Professor directed that his gift be used to:
1) enhance resources for the Political Science Department such as visiting lecturers, field trips and library purchases, 2) fund the Gastmann Initiative in International Organizations and Programs, which will support Trinity’s Rome campus programs, and 3) establish a Trinity scholarship fund that will give preference to students from the Netherlands or the Netherland Antilles.
President James F. Jones, Jr. called the gift “remarkable” and that we all indeed are very grateful for the gift.Â
Yay money! This should indeed help ease some of the funding issues Trin seems to encounter. This gift is by far the largest left by a Faculty or Staff member, and is one that comes as a huge surprise to even those that knew Professor Gastmann closely.Â
